You probably recognize this sweater from every photo I posted around Spring Break. What started as a cute sweater at my favorite consignment store on the Cape turned into a lifesaver in Florida.
We left the Cape and headed straight to the airport to visit my cousin in Florida. We’ve only been to Florida at the end of August so we were not prepared for the weather that was about to hit us when we reached MCO.
I had packed these ears to wear with the matching dress but it was rainy and cold. It probably would have felt warmer if it was cold at home but the weather in Florida and the weather in Massachusetts was pretty much the same.
The next day we went to Animal Kingdom to see my cousin at work and it was sunny! So I went for the cropped leggings that somehow matched my new sweater. I threw on an orange tank top underneath and halfway through the day I was able to take off the sweater and feel like I was actually in the Sunshine State.
On our last two days there the weather had finally warmed up and the sweater was left in the room. I did keep with the teal trend though.
Hey hey hey! It’s my first post as a college graduate! I wanted to share what I wore for some last minute ideas for anyone heading to a graduation in June.
Up first is Baccalaureate. At our school Baccalaureate is a senior run program and it’s a chance for students in our class to reflect on their experience at school. At first I didn’t even think I needed to pick out an outfit for Baccalaureate because I was going to be dancing in it.
As much as I loved the purple costumes, it didn’t look quite right hanging out of the bottom of our robes so I picked another purple dress.
I was actually about to put on a black dress and then I realized I had the unique opportunity of getting my grad cap to match my dress.
While my dress isn’t available on the Lilly website anymore, I have linked a similar style here. The Mila shift is a little more form fitting than the dress I wore but it has the bows on the side!
For graduation I wore the same white Lilly I wore when I graduated high school. In high school our robes were white so we pretty much had to go with a white dress but I thought it was just such a perfect dress that I had to wear it again.
The only problem? I’ve only worn it a handful of times since then but it actually started to yellow a little bit. The only thing I could think of to fix it was OxiClean, I kept hearing Billy Mays telling me it was the only way to whiten my dress and he was right! After two washes it was back to white!
I have linked two different white Lillys here. The first is the Aliza Midi dress, and it has very similar lace. The Maya Shift dress is also lace and it has the nicest neckline.
Let me know what you are wearing to graduation in the comments!
If you’re going for more of a casual look, this is for you! One of the best things ways to save money when building your wardrobe is to have some go-tos that you can add statement pieces to, to make it different every time you wear it.
The big statement piece here is the pink coat! Mine (technically it’s my mom’s!) is from Old Navy and while they don’t have the same exact one right now, they still have a very nice pink one!
So what else, you can’t go really go out without anything underneath!
I’m going to skip over the jeans, I’m sure you all have jeans at home (dark wash isn’t necessary!). I’m going to skip over the sweater as well because I’m sure you can find this in your closet as well! I would suggest going with a neutral like gray, black, or cream!
You’re also going to need a statement necklace! I’m wearing my favorite one from J. Crew Factory.
The last must have is a simple black purse. I worked at DSW the summer before I went away to college and it’s such a great place to get purses! Kelly & Katie is one of my favorite brands for shoes and purses!
And the last thing: just break out your favorite boots! Whether their higher or ankle booties, they tie this look together!
Alright ladies it’s time to break out the LBDs. In true “ballin’ on a budget” style, we’re using your go-to black dress for a night on the town.
If you didn’t know, I work at Banana Republic Factory Store and I love my job! The people I work with are great and the discounts are so helpful! I was working one of the markdown shifts last summer and as soon as I finished all my work I put this on hold.
One of the ways to get clothes on a budget is take advantage of factory stores! They often have the same quality clothes for much cheaper!
The best part of this outfit is that everything I’m wearing I already had (or borrowed from my mom’s closet!) But, while my grandmother taught me everyone should have a LBD I have linked some below incase you need to invest!
Here is the link for the first dress: cute off-the-shoulder This one is much similar to the one I chose to wear and it is $49 at Lulu’s.
Here is the link for the second dress: little black dress- scalloped dress I love the scalloped details on this one, it’s os fun! This one also comes from Lulu’s and is $46. Neither of these photos are mine they come from Lulu’s website!
While both of these are on the more expensive side, I like to look at thing in how many hours at Banana it’s worth and both of these dresses come in at about 4 hours, but they are dresses you can wear again and again. They’re also more expense because they’re made in the U.S.! I’m working on a post really soon about the importance of being mindful while shopping and paying attention to who made your clothes!
To all my high school/college girls: you get an extra 20% off at Lulu’s. Another huge way to save money: flash that student ID! So many retailers will give you a discount for being in school. Always be on the search for discounts, one I just learned about the other day- all restraints at the mall I work at give 10% to employees who work at the plaza. There’s a discount out there for everything you just have to find it!
Accessorizing is always a must! I went with my classic pearls and two pearl bracelets I got from Claire’s forever ago!
And if you’re from New England you’re going to need a coat!
This is the same coat I wrote about in my dressed down Valentine’s Day post. While Old Navy doesn’t have the same exact coat they have a very similar one you can find here on their website and it’s on sale for $45!
Last but not least: the shoes.
Now shoes are definitely my weakness, my first part time job was at DSW and I bought so many shoes while I was there. These shoes are anything but cheap, they’re from Lilly Pulitzer and I’m so lucky my Nana, my mom, and a $25 off coupon helped fund them. Graduation here we come!
As much as I love searching through stores and picking out my favorite pieces to feature on Sunflowers and Seersucker I realized that’s just not me! In the new year I want to continue blogging and make sure what I put out is the most authentic me possible. That being said, I’m a college student so while I can dream about having a separate closet for all my shoes right now I’m finding the most versatile pieces at the best bargain.
So welcome to my newest fashion series: A Preppy Penny! This series is all about ballin’ on a budget and being fashionable frugal. One of my favorite ways to shop for clothes is by going to consignment stores, I’d like to thank my mom for introducing me to consignment stores because they’ve been a treasure hunt ever since. Since you never know what they are going to have, the trick to consignment stores is finding ones that take in your style. My favorite stores are on the Cape as you can always find Lilly there! For this series I’m going to be searching online for clothes I can share the best deals with you but I encourage you to start looking in consignment stores!
Without further ado… today’s outfit:
I found a white sweater similar to mine from New York & Co. It’s on sale right now so it’s only $20!
While I couldn’t find a skirt exactly like mine J. Crew Factory had a similar grey and black plaid one for only $24.
Last but not least is the coat! My best suggestion for finding the best price would be to search black tweed coat on Poshmark. I found quite a few for as low as $25-30! I found a similar long coat from
. This is a little more expensive but in my opinion, but it’s important to invest in a good coat because you’ll wear it every day.
Happy shopping! Let me know what good deals you find!
If you haven’t seen this dress yet do you even follow my Instagram?? This dress has made its fair share of appearances this summer because it’s so cute!
So this is the Courtney shift in Multi Sea Salt and Sun! I am so obsessed with the pattern, it’s so fun and summery!
I got the dress during the After Party Sale last August and so as soon as the weather was warm this year I brought it out and I haven’t stopped wearing it!
Here’s the best part of the Courtney though…
I love the back! This dress is perfect for a day on the Cape! Even though it was cloudy when I went to the beach this dress brighter up my day!
While this dress is no longer on Lilly’s website, I found it on Zappos!
Sorry for such a short post today, you’ve all heard about my sandals and sunglasses a million times by now! If you haven’t heard about them and want the details check out this post… or this one or maybe this one. What can I say, if I like it I like it!
Today’s Weekly Style is a look I took to the Vineyard!
I went for last summer’s sailor shorts from Banana Republic Factory. You can’t see them in this photo but they have the cutest buttons on the front for the ultimate nautical look. While they didn’t have navy this summer if you’re looking for something on the nauti side, check out these striped ones! They also come in red (which I also have, oops). If you’re looking to add these to your closet act fast, they’re selling out!
The shirt is a Banana Malibu tee. These are my favorite shirts from Banana, they’re lightweight and perfect for hot summer days.
My bag is the classic Vineyard Vines Tote. It’s bug enough to carry my wallet, my S’well bottle, and whatever books I pick up while I’m on the Vineyard… it’s usually more than one!
My shoes are my go to Kelly&Katie Sandals. While this style is not available anymore here are the Poppie sandals from DSW which are very similar!
My sunglasses are also a summer staple and they come from Old Navy!
Another Friday brings another Weekly Style! If you follow me on Instagram you’ve definitely seen this dress before but I’m so in love with it I have to share!
I bought this dress last summer at the Loft so while they do not have any of the same exact dress here is an adorable blue off the shoulder dress. I love the bell sleeves on this dress so definitely check it out!
Here is a dress from Primark that is extremely similar to the one I’m wearing. I had actually gone into Primark the morning I took these photos and laughed when I saw this dress hanging up. Here is another very similar dress. This one is more of a chambray material but the top looks almost identical!
Once I left the Lawn on D I met up with another friend and we headed over to Acorn Street! I was so excited to go because it’s probably one of the most photogenic spots in Boston!
You can find my sunglasses at Old Navy! They come in tortoise shell and black.
As for the shoes, they are the same ones I wore in my last Weekly Style! While DSW does not have the same ones, Kelly & Katie just released the Poppie sandal which is just as cute!
Here’s just one more, silly picture I wanted to share with you guys! The reason I was in Boston two weekends ago was so I could surprise my best friend for her 21st birthday! I had so much fun getting to see her and meet some of her friends from school and it was such a nice break from summer school!
I’ve been extremely focused on revamping my blog lately. We are coming up on one year of Sunflowers and Seersucker and while I’m so happy with how far I’ve come in terms of sharing my writing and meeting new people, I just keep learning more that I want to incorporate!
With that, Weekly Style will be taking on a new form. While I still may share some of my favorite new pieces from my favorite brands, I want to focus more on what I’m wearing!
Here is my first look:
My summer style has been seriously slacking lately because of our “clinical dress code” for class (khakis), so this is what I put on as soon as I could take my khakis off last weekend!
My shirt and shorts are both from Banana Republic Factory Store. You can find the shirt here. I got this shirt at the beginning of the summer as part of my professional attire for school. I love this shirt because it goes from professional to casual seamlessly!
The shorts are from last summer and unfortunately, there aren’t any in this color on their website right now, but here are some turquoise shorts from Old Navy!
These sunglasses are the ones I’m wearing in the photo but I wanted to post a few different options because I absolutely love sunglasses! This pair is the classic cat-eye and I’m obsessed! Then we have these ones that are along the same black/gold theme. The last pair is another favorite style of mine- the oversized sunglasses. Is it just me or does anyone else feel famous walking around with huge sunglasses??
My sandals are from Kelly & Katie and I bought them at DSW! The particular style I have is not online anymore but they just released the Poppie flats which are very similar (and still come in gold!).
Last but not least is my Starfish Project Necklace! If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile you know Starfish Project is one of my favorite places to get jewelry from and funny enough, a year ago yesterday I ordered my first piece of jewelry from them (River Gold Triangle Necklace)! While they no longer have the necklace I’m wearing, here are some other turquoise options: the Jones necklace- similar to a petite version of what I’m wearing, the Keely necklace- I’m loving all the turquoise lately and I’m obsessed with this one in particular, and of course the Marissa necklace- how could I pass up featuring that one?!
I hope you enjoyed this post! I had a lot of fun creating it and sharing a peak into my closet!
It has been too long since I posted a Weekly Style and since summer is in full swing (heat and humidity included) I wanted to share some of my favorite swim wear!
I just bought this top with the matching bottoms earlier today when I made last minute Forth of July plans.
Who can pass up gingham?!
Up next is another Old Navy pick:
Here is the link for the top as well as the bottoms. I think the ruffle makes this top so fun! The polka dots make this look so classic, all you need to complete the look are some big sunglasses!
Up next I have a few bathing suits from J. Crew that are too good to pass up:
I absolutely love this one piece! It combines the gingham from my first pick and the ruffle from my second to create an adorable one piece!
I love the details in this one. From the straps in the top to the ties in the bottoms (not currently online) this piece has so many things going for it! If you wanted to try to make a little more of a statement try these striped bottoms instead.
And then we have some of my Nordstrom faves:
I needed to include a scalloped piece! You can get the top here and the bottoms here. I’ve been looking for a scalloped piece for awhile and if this goes on sale in a few weeksI might end up putting it in my cart.
If you’re looking for more inspiration check out my Pinterest board here!
Stay stylish, and cool!
I do not own any of the photos posted, they belong to their respective websites.
