Weekly Style 22: #LoveLoft

Hello friends,

Another Friday brings another Weekly Style! If you follow me on Instagram you’ve definitely seen this dress before but I’m so in love with it I have to share!

IMG_0353I bought this dress last summer at the Loft so while they do not have any of the same exact dress here is an adorable blue off the shoulder dress. I love the bell sleeves on this dress so definitely check it out!

Here is a dress from Primark that is extremely similar to the one I’m wearing. I had actually gone into Primark the morning I took these photos and laughed when I saw this dress hanging up. Here is another very similar dress. This one is more of a chambray material but the top looks almost identical!

Once I left the Lawn on D I met up with another friend and we headed over to Acorn Street! I was so excited to go because it’s probably one of the most photogenic spots in Boston!

You can find my sunglasses at Old Navy! They come in tortoise shell and black.

As for the shoes, they are the same ones I wore in my last Weekly Style! While DSW does not have the same ones, Kelly & Katie just released the Poppie sandal which is just as cute!

IMG_0349

Here’s just one more, silly picture I wanted to share with you guys! The reason I was in Boston two weekends ago was so I could surprise my best friend for her 21st birthday! I had so much fun getting to see her and meet some of her friends from school and it was such a nice break from summer school!

Stay stylish,

Weekly Style 21: A New Beginning

Hey hey hey!

I’ve been extremely focused on revamping my blog lately. We are coming up on one year of Sunflowers and Seersucker and while I’m so happy with how far I’ve come in terms of sharing my writing and meeting new people, I just keep learning more that I want to incorporate!

With that, Weekly Style will be taking on a new form. While I still may share some of my favorite new pieces from my favorite brands, I want to focus more on what I’m wearing!

Here is my first look:

IMG_0210

My summer style has been seriously slacking lately because of our “clinical dress code” for class (khakis), so this is what I put on as soon as I could take my khakis off last weekend!

My shirt and shorts are both from Banana Republic Factory Store. You can find the shirt here. I got this shirt at the beginning of the summer as part of my professional attire for school. I love this shirt because it goes from professional to casual seamlessly!

The shorts are from last summer and unfortunately, there aren’t any in this color on their website right now, but here are some turquoise shorts from Old Navy!

These sunglasses are the ones I’m wearing in the photo but I wanted to post a few different options because I absolutely love sunglasses! This pair is the classic cat-eye and I’m obsessed! Then we have these ones that are along the same black/gold theme. The last pair is another favorite style of mine- the oversized sunglasses. Is it just me or does anyone else feel famous walking around with huge sunglasses??

My sandals are from Kelly  & Katie and I bought them at DSW! The particular style I have is not online anymore but they just released the Poppie flats which are very similar (and still come in gold!).

Last but not least is my Starfish Project Necklace! If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile you know Starfish Project is one of my favorite places to get jewelry from and funny enough, a year ago yesterday I ordered my first piece of jewelry from them (River Gold Triangle Necklace)! While they no longer have the necklace I’m wearing, here are some other turquoise options: the Jones necklace- similar to a petite version of what I’m wearing, the Keely necklace- I’m loving all the turquoise lately and I’m obsessed with this one in particular, and of course the Marissa necklace- how could I pass up featuring that one?!

I hope you enjoyed this post! I had a lot of fun creating it and sharing a peak into my closet!

Weekly Style 20: Make a Splash

It has been too long since I posted a Weekly Style and since summer is in full swing (heat and humidity included) I wanted to share some of my favorite swim wear!

I just bought this top with the matching bottoms earlier today when I made last minute Forth of July plans.

Screen Shot 2018-07-03 at 9.42.24 PM

Who can pass up gingham?!

Up next is another Old Navy pick:

Screen Shot 2018-07-03 at 9.47.14 PM

Here is the link for the top as well as the bottoms. I think the ruffle makes this top so fun! The polka dots make this look so classic, all you need to complete the look are some big sunglasses!

Up next I have a few bathing suits from J. Crew that are too good to pass up:

Screen Shot 2018-07-03 at 9.59.18 PM

I absolutely love this one piece! It combines the gingham from my first pick and the ruffle from my second to create an adorable one piece!

Screen Shot 2018-07-03 at 10.02.21 PM

I love the details in this one. From the straps in the top to the ties in the bottoms (not currently online) this piece has so many things going for it! If you wanted to try to make a little more of a statement try these striped bottoms instead.

And then we have some of my Nordstrom faves:

Screen Shot 2018-07-03 at 10.33.28 PM.png

I needed to include a scalloped piece! You can get the top here and the bottoms here.  I’ve been looking for a scalloped piece for awhile and if this goes on sale in a few weeksI might end up putting it in my cart.

If you’re looking for more inspiration check out my Pinterest board here!

Stay stylish, and cool!

xox,

Marissa

I do not own any of the photos posted, they belong to their respective websites.

Weekly Style 19

This Weekly Style is so special because it is all about a collection from one of my favorite bloggers! Kate from Lonestar Southern was one of the biggest influences when I wanted to create a blog! Her style is absolute goals and she seems like she has such a great time blogging that I thought hey that might be fun! She is also the reason I found out about Starfish Project, one of my favorite jewelry lines.

Kate teamed up with a store in Dallas called The Impeccable Pig to create the cutest summer line! There are so many cute pieces so lets get started:

Gone to Charleston Crop Top & Gone to Charleston Shorts

Screen Shot 2018-05-20 at 11.19.34 PM

How cute is this set?! I love the complete look but I also love that you can mix and match with other pieces in the collection. My favorite part of the top is definitely the ruffle and my favorite part of the bottoms are the tie waist! So adorable!

Picnic Party Stripe Romper

Screen Shot 2018-05-20 at 11.26.03 PM

This romper is so sweet! One thing I love about rompers is how easy they are, there’s no time wasted in trying to find a top/bottom because it’s all built in! The details of this romper make it even cuter, I’m obsessed with the red trim and there is a cute keyhole cutout on the back.

Free Flowin’ Pink Dress

Screen Shot 2018-05-20 at 11.33.38 PM

This dress is gorgeous! I love the colors and the print! It is so flowy which makes it absolutely perfect for the summer. And the icing on the cake: it looks like it is a little longer in the back! Us tall girls need all the help we can get!

Last is my absolute favorite piece: Little Darling Embroidered Dress

Screen Shot 2018-05-20 at 11.43.50 PM

Darling is definitely the perfect description for this dress! I am in love with the sleeves and the embroidery! I am such a huge fan of off the shoulder dresses and everything about this dress is perfect!

To end today’s post I just wanted to share some of the cute statement earrings in the collection:

Seaside Disk Earrings

Capri Tassel Earrings- Coral

And my personal favorite: Jamaican Me Crazy

Let me know your favorite pieces in the comments!

Stay stylish!

Weekly Style 18

In two weeks I will be finishing up my orientation for physical therapy school! I’m so excited to start this next chapter of school! One of the requirements for my program is that for certain classes we have to dress professionally to prepare ourselves to be in the working world. As someone that isn’t so fond of khakis I need to get creative… quickly.

All that being said, today’s post is going to be all about business casual clothing from Banana Republic Factory!

First up is the Ruffle Sleeve Top:

Screen Shot 2018-05-08 at 11.56.17 AM

I absolutely love the color and the sleeves! The perfect thing about this top is that the sleeves mean you aren’t required to throw a cardigan or blazer on over it!

Next is the Layered Tunic Top:

Screen Shot 2018-05-08 at 12.00.07 PM

This top is such a cute color and it would look good with a black blazer and gold ballet flats. I haven’t tried this top on (yet!) but it also looks a little longer meaning it would pass my teacher’s “no belly no booty” rule. If you like this shirt but are looking for a different color it also comes in white and black!

Here’s another Layered Top:

Screen Shot 2018-05-08 at 12.20.31 PM.png

I love light blue! I also love the neckline of this one. It also comes in pink, white, or blue. If you pick the blue it would look great with a statement necklace like this one from J. Crew Factory.

Screen Shot 2018-05-08 at 12.24.04 PM

Then we have the Collarless Pleat Sleeve Blazer:

Screen Shot 2018-05-08 at 12.27.29 PM.png

Now I’m not a blazer person but I will definitely be trying this on soon! I am obsessed with the sleeves and will be keeping you all updated!

Lastly we have the Texture Pop Color Academy Blazer:

Screen Shot 2018-05-08 at 12.36.38 PM

So it seems like pink is the color of the day… But this is just so cute! If you picked out the black version or white versions of the shirts above they would look awesome with this!

That’s it for my intro to business casual but stay tuned for more to come!

Stay stylish!

Weekly Style 17

Hey hey hey!

It’s been so long since my last post because this semester has been absolutely crazy!  To get back into the swing of things I figured I would do a weekly style featuring the new Sarah Patrick line from KJP!

If you aren’t familiar with KJP, it is a brand that specializes in classic Americana. If you follow Kiel and his wife Sarah on Instagram you can see they truly are living the American Dream. Their feeds are filled with pictures that make you want to drive a Wagoneer around Nantucket all summer.

Just a heads up: the items are just in resale right now and are expected to ship halfway through May.

First up is the Nautical Chinoiserie Mini Dress:

Chinoiserie_Mini_Dress_1024x1024

This dress is a summer must have! It’s such a good fit and the print is to die for. It would be perfect for walking around Bowen’s Wharf this summer to check out their flagship store. My second favorite pattern for the mini dress is the Newport Topiary Gardens, you can find it here!

Next up we have the Sconset Rose Cottage bracelet:

Sconset_Rose_Cottage_2_1024x1024

If you’re looking for the perfect bracelet to accompany your new dress look no further! This bracelet is so delicate and intricate! It’s a great addition to any outfit.

Then we have the Climbing Rose Tassel earrings:

Climbing_Rose_Tassel_1024x1024

Although I love my pearls I’m also a huge statement earring person and I’ve fallen hard for these earrings! They would make a simple white dress complete! If you’re looking for the finishing touch on your graduation look here it is!

Last but not least are the Ginger Jar Topiary Earrings:

Ginger_Jar_Topiary_Earrings_1024x1024

How fun are these?! If I had a garden party to go to, these would already be in my cart! They are too adorable to pass up!

All photos are from the KJP website! I do not own any of them!

J. Crew Factory just released new spring clothes so here is a round up of some of my favorites!

Chambray Ruffle Tie Sleeve Dress

Screen Shot 2018-03-05 at 9.35.56 AM

I fell in love with tie sleeves when I first started seeing them last fall and I am so happy they are here to stay! I also love the chambray and I think it’s perfect for the transition from winter to spring.

Here are some cute earrings from BaubleBar that would look great with this dress! I love the lavender for spring but I think the gold would also look great!

Screen Shot 2018-03-05 at 9.42.41 AM.png

End on End Ruffle Front Tank Top

Screen Shot 2018-03-05 at 9.45.51 AM

This shirt comes in navy and light blue and it another great transition piece. You can wear it with a cardigan on those colder days and then once it gets a little warmer you can leave the sweater at home! This look wouldn’t be complete without pearl earrings and big sunglasses!

Scalloped Sidewalk Skirt

Screen Shot 2018-03-05 at 12.15.44 PM.png

I didn’t know I needed this in my life but now I can’t live without it! The sidewalk skirt is my favorite J. Crew  piece and now there are scallops! I need this green color and it also comes in black, red, and blue. This skirt would also look so cute with these wedges from DSW:

Screen Shot 2018-03-05 at 12.23.14 PM.png

Scalloped Cami

Screen Shot 2018-03-05 at 12.26.00 PM

Sticking with the scallop theme how cute is this top?! I love the simple detail on the top and think it’s perfect for that put together look. This top comes in so many colors: lavender, white, mint, pink, and blue, but the pink and blue are almost gone so act fast! If you’re looking for shoes to wear with this cami those wedges above also come in black!

Tie Front Wrap

Screen Shot 2018-03-05 at 12.31.05 PM

This shirt takes me back to the ballet days! It also comes in gray and black but I definitely prefer the pink! If you’re looking for shoes to go with this top definitely pick out some flats that tie at the ankle. This is a pair from Vince Camuto that I really love!

Screen Shot 2018-03-05 at 12.40.14 PM.png

Bow Neck Sweater

Screen Shot 2018-03-05 at 12.42.00 PM.png

If you don’t love this sweater you’re crazy! I think it is so cute and I had to include it once I saw it was back in stock! And it would look fabulous with the Vince Camuto flats!!

That’s all for today! Stay stylish!

How could I not write about Lilly this week when Lilly swim just came out! Right now it’s  40 degrees and rainy but as Lilly said, “Not always sunny, but always in a sunny state of mind.”

IMG_5483

The first Lilly I bought from the APS was a swim coverup so I was so excited to find out Lilly swim was back!

The first piece I am obsessed with is the Cay Twist Bandeau

Screen Shot 2018-02-24 at 4.04.41 PM

My favorite pattern is Multi Catch The Wave but Twilight Blue Gypsea is also gorgeous and I don’t think you can go wrong either way! You can find the matching bottoms here. Another options for bottoms are here and they have a little bit of a wider band.

Ginette Coverup

Screen Shot 2018-02-24 at 4.10.41 PM

This coverup is adorable! The pattern and the fringe make it so fun and it also looks cool!

And for towels you have the Circa Round Beach Towel

Screen Shot 2018-02-24 at 4.13.36 PM

This looks like the perfect spot to curl up and read a book all day!

And what else would you use to carry all your stuff to the beach besides the Destination Beach Tote

Screen Shot 2018-02-24 at 4.16.29 PM

This bag comes in tons of fun destinations like Naples, Sarasota, and Key West but how could you not pick where it all started!

Let me know you you will be mixing and matching all these fun prints on your way to the beach!

Stay stylish!

Weekly Style 14

Today’s Weekly Style is one of my favorite preppy brands: Lauren James!

I got my first dress from there during their sale last summer and it ended up being the inspiration behind my logo! Unfortunately the Stratton is all sold out but the Livingston dress is a similar idea and now they have it in solid seersucker!

They just released some new spring clothes so I figured I would do a quick roundup of their new dresses.

Maggie Dress

Screen Shot 2018-02-19 at 4.47.12 PM

How cute is this dress! I think the 3/4 length sleeves make this the perfect spring dress! This was my favorite color combo but they also have pink stripes with a blue collar and blue stripes with a pink collar.

Sullivan Seersucker Dress

Screen Shot 2018-02-19 at 4.51.19 PM

I am obsessed with the back of this dress. If you are graduating this year I think this is such a perfect graduation dress. It would be such a cute photo op to have someone take a picture of you with your gown over your shoulder. This dress also comes in red, pink, and blue but I love how clean the white looks.

Avery Solid Seersucker

Screen Shot 2018-02-19 at 10.07.46 PM.png

This dress is so adorable! It reminds me of the fit of a Lilly dress but it’s seersucker! This would be the perfect Easter dress and it comes in a variety of colors!

Landry Seersucker

Screen Shot 2018-02-19 at 10.10.21 PM.png

What preppy girl doesn’t love scallops? And when they’re combined with seersucker it’s a match made in heaven! This dress comes in every seersucker color under the sun and it also has pockets! Could it get any better?

Corbin Solid Seersucker

Screen Shot 2018-02-19 at 10.17.46 PM

This dress is also a classic LJ look that is now available in solid seersucker! The front is a sweetheart neckline and the back is to die for! I am absolutely obsessed with the backs of the LJ dresses there’s such an attention to detail.

That’s it for today’s post! Stay stylish!

xox,

Marissa

With the exception of the first photo collage, all photos are from the Lauren James website. I do not take credit for owning them!

Say Yes to the Dress

IMG_1781This is my favorite thing I have ever worn. Period. If anyone has a prom that they still need a date for, I’m free and looking for any excuse to wear this again.

As I hinted at in my prom post, I did the exact opposite look for senior semi. I had never ever ever pictured myself in a black gown, especially one with a nonexistent back. It just was not me. One of my best friends ended up wearing a green gown with a succulent crown that made her look like a fairy (her mom is a crazy talented florist) and we laughed the whole night about how we must have switched dresses.

IMG_1854

Excuse the pose, it was a cross country thing 😉

I knew I wanted a more form fitting dress this time around, I had done mermaid and ball gown at this point although I was contemplating going back to mermaid. I also knew i wanted floor length. Since it was semi formal some girl opted for shorter dresses but in my head I was thinking you only have so many chances to wear a floor length dress.

IMG_1785

After trying on a number of dresses I knew this was the one but I just kept thinking, “Really Marissa, a black dress?” but I knew I would regret it if I didn’t buy it. I remember the saleswoman gave me advice that helped me realize this definitely was the one. While it’s every girl’s nightmare to show up in the same dress as someone, you need to pick one that makes you so happy you wouldn’t even care. So the black dress it was.

Here is one of my all time favorite pictures of me and my best friend Clara.

IMG_1848

I’ll leave you with a funny story before I sign off. Two weeks before senior semi was senior skip day. I was someone who always had perfect attendance but I’m also someone who will not pass up a trip to the Cape so I skipped school. It was cloudy out so after putting on sunscreen in the morning I never thought to put it back on later in the day. While we were all sun bathing I remember thinking “Oh I need to flip over so my back isn’t whiter than the rest of my body.” Worst. Mistake.  Ever. I got the worst sunburn of my entire life and it was only on my back! Up until that day I never believed people when they said cloudy days are the easiest to get a sunburn.

One week after senior skip day I had a dance competition… in my two piece costume which showed off my two skin tones, and the following week was senior semi with my open back dress which would reveal my red back.I have taken that as a lesson to never skip school again.

That was my first and only investment in tanning lotion and I do not regret a thing. It helped even me out but if you look closely you can still see my bathing suit line.

IMG_1853

Honestly, if I could get an exact copy of this dress in white for my wedding I probably would.

Stay stylish!

xox,

Marissa
