Weekly Style 19

This Weekly Style is so special because it is all about a collection from one of my favorite bloggers! Kate from Lonestar Southern was one of the biggest influences when I wanted to create a blog! Her style is absolute goals and she seems like she has such a great time blogging that I thought hey that might be fun! She is also the reason I found out about Starfish Project, one of my favorite jewelry lines.

Kate teamed up with a store in Dallas called The Impeccable Pig to create the cutest summer line! There are so many cute pieces so lets get started:

Gone to Charleston Crop Top & Gone to Charleston Shorts

How cute is this set?! I love the complete look but I also love that you can mix and match with other pieces in the collection. My favorite part of the top is definitely the ruffle and my favorite part of the bottoms are the tie waist! So adorable!

Picnic Party Stripe Romper

This romper is so sweet! One thing I love about rompers is how easy they are, there’s no time wasted in trying to find a top/bottom because it’s all built in! The details of this romper make it even cuter, I’m obsessed with the red trim and there is a cute keyhole cutout on the back.

Free Flowin’ Pink Dress

This dress is gorgeous! I love the colors and the print! It is so flowy which makes it absolutely perfect for the summer. And the icing on the cake: it looks like it is a little longer in the back! Us tall girls need all the help we can get!

Last is my absolute favorite piece: Little Darling Embroidered Dress

Darling is definitely the perfect description for this dress! I am in love with the sleeves and the embroidery! I am such a huge fan of off the shoulder dresses and everything about this dress is perfect!

To end today’s post I just wanted to share some of the cute statement earrings in the collection:

Say Yes to the Dress

IMG_1781This is my favorite thing I have ever worn. Period. If anyone has a prom that they still need a date for, I’m free and looking for any excuse to wear this again.

As I hinted at in my prom post, I did the exact opposite look for senior semi. I had never ever ever pictured myself in a black gown, especially one with a nonexistent back. It just was not me. One of my best friends ended up wearing a green gown with a succulent crown that made her look like a fairy (her mom is a crazy talented florist) and we laughed the whole night about how we must have switched dresses.

Excuse the pose, it was a cross country thing 😉

I knew I wanted a more form fitting dress this time around, I had done mermaid and ball gown at this point although I was contemplating going back to mermaid. I also knew i wanted floor length. Since it was semi formal some girl opted for shorter dresses but in my head I was thinking you only have so many chances to wear a floor length dress.

After trying on a number of dresses I knew this was the one but I just kept thinking, “Really Marissa, a black dress?” but I knew I would regret it if I didn’t buy it. I remember the saleswoman gave me advice that helped me realize this definitely was the one. While it’s every girl’s nightmare to show up in the same dress as someone, you need to pick one that makes you so happy you wouldn’t even care. So the black dress it was.

Here is one of my all time favorite pictures of me and my best friend Clara.

I’ll leave you with a funny story before I sign off. Two weeks before senior semi was senior skip day. I was someone who always had perfect attendance but I’m also someone who will not pass up a trip to the Cape so I skipped school. It was cloudy out so after putting on sunscreen in the morning I never thought to put it back on later in the day. While we were all sun bathing I remember thinking “Oh I need to flip over so my back isn’t whiter than the rest of my body.” Worst. Mistake.  Ever. I got the worst sunburn of my entire life and it was only on my back! Up until that day I never believed people when they said cloudy days are the easiest to get a sunburn.

One week after senior skip day I had a dance competition… in my two piece costume which showed off my two skin tones, and the following week was senior semi with my open back dress which would reveal my red back.I have taken that as a lesson to never skip school again.

That was my first and only investment in tanning lotion and I do not regret a thing. It helped even me out but if you look closely you can still see my bathing suit line.

Honestly, if I could get an exact copy of this dress in white for my wedding I probably would.

Stay stylish!

A Cinderella Story

Prom season is quickly approaching which means it is time to go dress shopping. I wanted to share my junior prom and senior semi dresses with you guys because even though it has been 3-4 years, I am I always looking for an excuse to get dressed up and this will have to do.

I was lucky enough to be asked to go to prom as a sophomore and that year I experimented with what I liked. I had always seen myself in a ballgown so for my first prom I chose a coral dress and I did something really fancy with my fair.

For my from I wanted that classic look so I chose to do a high bun (my signature look in high school) and a big poofy dress.

If only I had know to take the seatbelt off because I would need this picture for a future blog post!

prom2Dressed and ready to go take pictures.

We are so lucky that we have a beautiful mansion in town that opens their doors so we can take pictures on the grounds and inside. I’m even luckier because I’ve volunteered there!

prom8

Off to dance the night away!

prom6

Photo booth fun!

prom7

After a long night of dancing and eating dessert at a dessert bar in town I was ready for bed.

It seems like the ballgown is not in style this year so I had a tough time finding exact matches but I found a few blue dresses along the same lines:

Navy Gown

Off the Shoulder Light Blue Gown

Beaded Gown

My biggest suggestion though is to go to consignment stores! Most of my formal dresses came from consignment stores!

Can’t wait to show you what my senior semi dress looked like! Hint it’s nothing like my first two…
